Sometimes my patients suprise me. One, whom I like to call my "Cabbage Patch Patient" because she is so puffed up that she looks like one, and she is just the sweetest thing and is constantly saying thank you, and sweetheart and please and generally just being a dear, suprised me today. I honestly did not think she was ever going to get better. But she is. She can eat. She can get up almost by herself. She even walked yesterday for 190 feet. Amazing!
Funny how describing a patient can sound like a new mother glowing over the their childs new accomplishments. "Little Johnny finally used the big boy potty instead of his diaper!" "My patient finally used the actual potty instead of her diaper!"
It's so nice to see someone getting better. We don't usually get to see that. It seems that it always goes the other way here. Especially lately.
I know it is never me that improved the patient, but it sure is fun to cheer them on and be proud of them. It is good to be me, especially when my patients are doing well!

Happy 4th of July! (or as one Canadian put it, "Happy American Day!")

If you look closely, you can see the American Flags. These are some pictures from last week's whitewater rafting trip. As you can see, I survived it, and did not even fall in once, though I did try!

I am always such a ham in front of the camera!

This was about as hairy as it got. Still much fun!

So this is the "before" shot! They made us practice out of the water first. We did not get very far on dry land. Turns out there is a reason they call it whitewater rafting.

Does this lifepreserver make me look hot? Admittedly, it must be the hat. Hi mom!

I went with 2 guys from work. Don't get all excited. As you can see, they are both quite a bit shorter than me. Not to mention gay. I don't think I heard the word "girlfriend!" more in my life! But it was fun to have someone to admire the hot guides with!
I think the farmer john's really do something for me.
It is good to be me! Happy 4th!

O Canada!

I wish you all a very happy, celebratory Canada Day! Alas, all of my pictures from Canada were taken prior to my digital days, so I did my best! (it's actually an Alaskan moose, but for today we can make believe he is Canadian) The top 2 pictures, the first one actually has an honest to goodness Candian in it! She is standing to the right of me. The second is another dear Canadian friend, John, who is also a nurse whom I have know since 2003, and we have traveled to many of the same places, just not necesssarily at the same time. So that's the best I can do! 2 live Canadians and one who's just pretending! Happy Canada Day!!!
